LNG SHIPS

The maritime sector is experiencing a rapid shift toward liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cleaner fuel to meet increasingly strict environmental regulations. This trend is particularly visible in the conversion of cruise ships and ferries operating in environmentally protected areas, as well as in the construction of new LNG-powered cruise ships, which offer significant emission reductions and compliance with IMO Tier III and other local regulations.

Fuel Gas Supply Systems (FGSS)

The Fuel Gas Supply System (FGSS) is the heart of LNG-powered vessels, responsible for delivering LNG safely and efficiently from storage tanks to engines. Proper operation of the FGSS is critical to ensure reliable fuel delivery, system safety, and compliance with regulatory standards.

At Cryoengineers, we provide specialized services for FGSS and other cryogenic systems on LNG ships, including:

  • Vacuum services for cryogenic piping to ensure insulation integrity and thermal performance

  • Cold commissioning and system cooldown for safe start-up and operation

  • Technical advisory and operational support for FGSS and related cryogenic infrastructure

LNG Storage and Piping Systems

LNG ships rely on vacuum-insulated tanks and piping to maintain fuel at cryogenic temperatures (~ -162 °C). Any degradation of vacuum insulation can increase boil-off rates, reduce operational efficiency, and compromise safety. Our services are designed to maintain optimal vacuum, detect leaks, and restore system integrity for continuous, reliable operation.

Environmental Impact and Regulatory Drivers

Environmental regulations have accelerated the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. In sensitive areas and emission control zones (ECZs), older vessels have been converted to LNG or hybrid systems, and new-build LNG cruise ships have emerged to reduce SOx, NOx, and CO₂ emissions. This shift creates a growing demand for specialized maintenance, cryogenic expertise, and reliable vacuum systems aboard LNG-powered vessels.

Why Cryoengineers

With extensive experience in marine cryogenic systems, we help ship operators and yards:

  • Ensure safe and reliable FGSS operation

  • Maintain vacuum-insulated piping and storage systems

  • Support cold commissioning and start-up procedures

Our goal is to enable efficient, safe and environmentally compliant operation of LNG-powered vessels, supporting the growing marine transition toward low-emission shipping.
